(NEW) The Orpheus Variations, by Appt.
Monday, May 3, 2010, Late Afternoon / Evening. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, Late Afternoon / Evening. Thursday, May 6, 2010, Late Afternoon / Evening Please prepare short contemporary monologue and short monologue from the classical Greek tragedy canon. Orpheus should prepare 16 bars of indie rock song to sing a capella. Aerial and movement callbacks will be held on May 9th, during daytime hours. To arrange an appointment, please email headshot and resume to casting@deconstructivetheatreproject.org. Please include links to aerial or musical performance in your email if applicable.

Auditions are being held for The Orpheus Variations. Seeking Collaborative Performers. Description: Myth and memory collide in a contemporary theatrical landscape where love doesn’t quite conquer all. Producer: The Deconstructive Theatre Project Director: Adam J. Thompson. Aerial Choreo: Nicki Miller. Commitment dates: July 26, 2010 – September 4, 2010. Stipend. Contemporary deconstruction and adaptation of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. This development production will integrate live performance, aerial silk choreography, interactive video/projection, and live music performance in an intensely visual atmosphere. Fully staged workshop performances at the Theatre for the New City, first week of September 2010. Additional development planned to follow.

Seeking: Note: Actors will contribute to the shaping of characters and narrative and should be comfortable with both contemporary and poetic language and open to dramaturgical and physical collaboration, including scripting and staging opportunities. Some roles require specific musical or movement skills. See below.

Eurydice: Female, late 20s to early 30s. Striking, full of questions and a bit sad. She is the lover and muse to Orpheus and new friend of Persephone, overseer of the dead. Following her suicide, Eurydice is trapped in a single moment in time, perpetually confronting variations in her own timeless myth. This actor must be able to project a striking sense of unease. Requires above average to expert skills in aerial performance, or in dance but comfortable with learning aerial silk performance.

Orpheus: Male, late 20s to early 30s. The greatest musician in recorded history – larger than his own myth, now catatonic following the death of Eurydice. Dark, bold. A very strong physical actor needed to convey emotion and presence through elements other than text. Requires proficiency in musical instruments, preferably (but not limited to) violin and/or piano and strong indie-rock vocals; as well as some aerial performance skill or comfort learning.

Persephone: Female, any age. A modern goddess – a couture fashion queen in enormous dresses, and overseer of the Underworld. Persephone was kidnapped from the world above by the god Hades. She is a bit lonely, sometimes cunning, sometimes wistful. A unique relationship blooms between she and Eurydice. Ideally has some experience with stilts or the ability to learn very basic stilts technique.

(NEW) The Rocky Horror Show, NJ
Tuesday, May 11, and Thursday, May 13, from 7:00 until 9:00 PM (with callbacks, if needed, by invitation only on Sunday, May 16, at 2:00 PM). Brundage Park Playhouse, Carrell Road, Randolph, NJ 07869. www.brundageparkplayhouse.org

Auditions are being held for Brundage Park Playhouse's summer musical, Richard O'Brien's THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW. Performances will be July 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31 at 8:00 PM and July 18 and 25 at 2:00 PM. For further information please send an email to BPP@brundageparkplayhouse.org or call the theater at (973) 989-7092. A musical sensation that has played London and Broadway, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW has endured constant production since its inception in 1973 and is the basis for the 1975 late night, cult film classic. When Brad and Janet take a wrong turn on their way home from a wedding, they end up at Dr. Frank 'N' Furter's castle where a war of cultures ensues. A wild and hilarious science-fiction journey that includes the creation of a man, ray-guns, high heels and lots of songs! Auditioners are requested to be familiar with the show. Auditions are open to those who are high school seniors and older. Auditioners are requested to sing an up-tempo rock song (preferable from the show) that shows off their vocal range. An accompanist will be provided, but auditioners should bring their own sheet music unless they are doing a song from the show. Auditioners will also be expected to do a cold reading and a dance combo. Please wear shoes you can dance in. Since the appearance of some of the characters is important, it is suggested that auditioners wear something that shows off their body. If cast, auditioners should not be afraid to wear a brief costume on stage (if you are familiar with the show, you will understand). Auditioners are requested to bring their acting resume and a headshot or snapshot to the audition.
