New York Stage Casting Update: Mar 4, 2010

(NEW) West Side Story, open call, dancers
1st OPEN Auditions (Equity/non) – Sharks/Shark Girls: Wednesday, March 17, 2010, Pearl Studios NYC. 500 Eighth Avenue, 12th Floor. Times: 10 AM – Female dancers (Shark Girls). 2 PM – Male dancers (Sharks). 2nd OPEN Auditions (Equity/non) – Jets/Jet Girls: Wednesday, March 24, 2010, Chelsea Studios, 151 West 26th Street, 5th Floor. Times: 10 AM – Male dancers (and females for Anybody’s) (Jets). 2 PM – Female dancers (Jet Girls). The producer will run all aspects of these calls. Equity audition procedures will NOT be in effect, and no Equity Monitor will be provided. Please be warmed up and ready to dance when your call begins. Jets: Jazz sneakers and knee pads. Sharks: Jazz sneakers. Jet and Shark Girls: Heels. Some may be asked to stay and sing after all have danced. Please prepare a traditional musical theatre song. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided. Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

Open auditions for dancers are being held for the national tour of West Side Story. Production Current minimum weekly salary: $1,605. Producers: Kevin McCollum, James Nederlander, Jr. and Jeffrey Seller. Music: Leonard Bernstein. Lyrics: Stephen Sondheim. Concept: Jerome Robbins. Book/Stage Director: Arthur Laurents. Jerome Robbins’s choreography recreated by Joey McKneely. Musical Supervisor: Patrick Vaccariello. General Manager: Charlotte Wilcox. Casting: SH Entertainment. 1st tour rehearsal (NYC): August 23, 2010. Travel to Detroit MI: September 19. 1st preview: October 1.

Seeking Ensemble:
The Sharks:
Characters are young, Puerto Rican males. Seeking actor/dancer/singers. Must be trained in ballet and jazz dancing. Fluency in Spanish is a must. Ensemble.

Shark Girls: Characters are young, Puerto Rican females. Seeking actor/dancers who sing VERY well. Must be trained in ballet and jazz dancing. Fluency in Spanish is a must. Ensemble.

The Jets: Characters are young, Caucasian males. Seeking actor/dancers who also sing well. Must be trained in ballet and jazz dancing. Included in the gang is one young female tomboy (Anybody’s – who must be a very strong soprano as she sings “Somewhere” in the ballet) and Baby John, who must look younger than all the other Jets. Ensemble (Anybody’s and Baby John are principals).

Jet Girls: Characters are young, Caucasian females. Fierce. Seeking actor/dancers who also sing well. Must be trained in ballet and jazz dancing.

(NEW) Peter and the Wolf. open call
OPEN Auditions (Equity/non). Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Growing Stage Historic Palace Theatre, 7 PM — 9 PM, 7 Ledgewood Avenue, Route 183, Netcong, NJ. No appointment necessary. Prepare 16 bars only of a song. Bring printed sheet music; accompanist provided. Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

The Growing Stage of Netcong, NJ, is holding an open call (Equity/non) for Peter and the Wolf. Equity TYA. Executive Director/Stage Dierctor: Stephen L. Fredericks. Musical Director: Laura Petrie. Book: Allison Gregory. Music: Hummie Mann. Based on the original story and music by Sergi Prokofiev. Rehearsal schedules are generally two or three evenings during the week, and a weekend afternoon. Runs: April 17 - May 23, with special premiere performance on Friday, April 16 at 7:30 pm and all remaining performances on Saturdays and Sundays at 4 pm. There is also the possibility of weekday school performances as well. Synopsis: Peter and his grandfather live in a house by a lush meadow and sparkling pond, overlooked by a sturdy tree and high stone wall. Grandfather warns Peter to stay out of the meadow because a wolf is on the prowl. But what little boy can resist playing outside on a beautiful day?

Seeking: There will be four roles available for AEA artists, and one AEA/ASM out of all roles available. All cast members are expected for all performances, with no exception since the company does not cast understudies. Night Mode Entertainment is casting a non-union stage production of Annie - Minus the Orphans. This version of the popular stage play involves a plot to deceive Oliver Warbucks. Possible pay based on box office sales. Excellent exposure as a short film version of this play is currently in production. Possibility of adding this performance to DVD / press release package. Rehearsal dates: TBD. Performance date: April 17th.
