Bryan Williams, writer-composer-music dir.; Lance Hewett, dir. Runs Oct. 29-Nov. 21 (15 performances, including Thu.-Sat. evenings and Sun. matinees) at the Shell Theater on West 43rd St. in NYC. The Stranger, male, mid-20s to early 30s, high baritone, vocally flexible, wildly passionate and dangerous sailor, romantic and charismatic, sings soaring, passionate ballads, as well as lyrical love duets, Leda’s demon lover, his ghost returns to her even after he drowns in a shipwreck;

Leda, female, mid to late 20s, dynamic voice, vocally flexible, central role, the lighthouse keeper’s daughter, a sensitive, magnetic and beautiful human being, but sexually, socially and emotionally repressed, the little girl inside struggles with the sensual woman desperate to emerge.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010. 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM, (sign in begins 7). The Gallery Players. 199 14th Street (between 4th and 5th Aves), Brooklyn (Park Slope), NY. Equity audition procedures are NOT in effect. No Equity monitor provided. Producer runs all aspects of the audition. No advanced appointments necessary. AEA members receive priority. Prepare 32 bars of a musical theater song in the style of the show. Bring sheet music in the correct key, no lead sheets; accompanist provided. Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

The Gallery Players of Brooklyn, NY are holding open auditions for Reefer Madness. Showcase. Producer: Heather Siobhan Curran; By: Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney. Director: Dev Bondarin; Choreographer: Joe Barros. 1st rehearsal: 9/18/10, evenings and weekends. Runs: 10/23 – 11/14, Thursday-Sunday. 16 performances. All auditions, rehearsals, and performances at The Gallery Players. Theatre’s NOTE: if you have already attended the OPEN auditions for this show in August, please do not attend this one. Callbacks September 12. Reefer Madness The Musical is inspired by the 1936 film of the same name and takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex, and violence. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition. The Gallery Players, 199 14th St. Brooklyn between 4th and 5th Aves. Take the R to 9th St. or the F to 4th Ave. in Brooklyn. The R can be accessed at the Pacific/Atlantic station in Brooklyn which is served by the 2,3,4,5,N,B,D and Q trains from Manhattan.

Seeking: 7 men, 6 women. All performers should be singers who dance/strong movers.
Lecturer: Male, 30s-50s. The narrator. An authority figure who warns the audience of the perils of reefer, while popping in and out of the action to further teach us of its danger (doubles as Goat-Man, Mr. Poppy, Irish Priest, Old Man, Radio Announcer, Ticket-Taker, Policeman, & FDR.)

Jimmy Harper: Male, 20s. A wholesome, trusting, teenager who runs into trouble after he is lured into the dangerous world of reefer.

Jack Stone: Male, 30s-40s. The proprietor of the Reefer Den. A sexy 1930's gangster movie-type who pushes reefer on unsuspecting teenagers. (Doubles as Jesus & George Washington).

Ralph Wiley: Male, Late 20s-30s. A denizen of the Reefer Den. A former college student who was lured into the world of reefer long ago. (Doubles as Sally’s baby, Switch-Puller, & Uncle Sam).

Mary Lane: Female, 20s. Jimmy's sweetheart. A naïve, virginal teenage girl who herself is not impervious to the dark world of reefer.

Mae: Female, late 20s-40s. The hostess of the Reefer Den. Attractive, yet slightly haggard. Would leave this life of sin if she were not so addicted to reefer.

Sally: Female, 20s-30s. A resident of the Reefer Den. A seductive, Mae West type with moxie. Will do nearly anything for a hit. (Also plays Lady Liberty).

Ensemble: 3 M. 3 F. 20s-30s. Members of the ensemble will play Reefer Zombies, Kids at the Five-and-Dime, Orgy dancers & Angels, etc. Should be strong versatile dancers, who also tap (tumbling & special skills a plus) and have good comic/character skills. Any voice range. All are featured.
