New York Stage Casting Update: Feb 2, 2010

Non-Equity auditions are being held for “Laughing in the Wind,” a cautionary tale that exposes the tragic consequences of ruthless power struggles, is based on one of the best known martial arts novels throughout the Chinese-speaking world, by Jin Yong, The most popular writer of the genre. The production consists of 26 characters. We are looking to cast professional Actors of all ethnicity, age between 16 – 60, with backgrounds/training in Dance or Martial Arts to fill all 26 characters. Some actors will play multiple roles. The production will be bi- or multi-lingual. Performances: 16 performances starting on Friday, April 30th through Sunday, May 23, 2010, mainly on Thursday through Sunday, with an additional show on Wednesday, May 19. Rehearsal: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings (5:30 - 9:30pm) starting on Feb. 28 through April 25, 2010. Compensation: $300 Stipend provided at the end of the Production, and 4 complimentary tickets to any of the shows.

Seeking Non-Equity Actors:
Master Autonomy – Male, Age Range 30 – 60. Head of the Blue Clan of the sacred Mountain Hua. Although he known for his cultured and refined manner, he is actually a narrow-minded, selfish and power-hungry hypocrite.

Mistress Autonomy – Female, Age Range 30 – 60. Master Autonomy’s Wife. A devoted wife and mother, upright and honest.

Coral – Female, Age Range 16 – 20s. Master Autonomy’s Daughter. She is Little Fox’s childhood playmate and is initially his love interest. She marries Ping later as she feels that his gentlemanly personality resembles that of her father's.

Little Fox – Male, Age range 18-30s. The scruffy, happy-go-lucky protagonist of the story. He is raised as an orphan and becomes the number one disciple at the Blue Clan of the sacred Mountain Hua.

Ping – Male, Age range 16 -30s. An ambitious young man who joins the Blue Clan. Master Cool – Male, middle-aged. One of the protagonists in the play. Calculated but well-controlled.

Master Liberty – Male, middle-aged. Former Head of the Sun Moon Cult. He instills fear and panic into the hearts of many, including his own followers.

Ying Ying – Female, Age Range 16 -20s. Daughter of Master Liberty. She later becomes Little Fox’s love interest. Beautiful and intelligent, she’s highly regarded in the Sun Moon Cult.

Master Qu – A respected elderly member of the Sun Moon Cult. A musician and artist.

Little Smokey – Female, Age Range 13 – 20. Master Qu’s granddaughter. Other Principle and Supporting - Age range between 16 – 60. Dance or Martial Arts background a must.

(NEW) Enchanted April, open auditions
Monday, February 15 and Tuesday, February 16, from 7-9 p.m. The Sherman Playhouse, 5 Route 39 North (the intersection of Route 37 and 39), Sherman, Conn. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. No appointments are necessary. All roles are available and both professionals and amateurs are welcome. PLEASE NOTE: English accents are a must, and one female character must have a convincing Italian accent. The Sherman Playhouse is holding auditions for their production of Enchanted April. Producer: Matthew Barber. Director: Susan Abrams. Author: Elizabeth von Arnim. Rehearsals begin March 1 with performances running from April 23 to May 15 on Fridays and Saturdays, as well as Sunday, May 2. Set in 1922, Enchanted April delightfully brings together four uniquely different women escaping harsh, rainy, war-scarred London to the warm sun and blooming wisteria of the Italian countryside. Leaving husbands and societal obligations behind, the desperate Hampstead housewives Lotty and Rose, severe Mrs. Graves, and seductive Lady Caroline, along with some unexpected guests, learn to appreciate each other while rediscovering how to laugh and love under the Italian sun.

Seeking: three men, ages 30 to 50, and five women, ages 25 to 70.
